Leading with Legacy: Mazi Victor Ahuruonye’s Farewell Message as NNAUSA President

Speech of Mazi Victor Ahuruonye

Dear NNAUSA Family,

As I take my final bow from years of public service to this incredible association, my heart is filled with gratitude and reflection on a life-changing journey that began in 2003. From my early days as a youth board member to serving as your National President/CEO from 2021 to 2024, every role has been a stepping stone in my unwavering commitment to our community.

First and foremost, I thank my God, the source of all my blessings. I also remember my late parents, Rtd Chief Inspector David and Mrs. Joy Ahuruonye, who instilled in me a love for God and humanity. Their guidance and teachings have been the foundation of my life.

To my brother-in-law, Mr. Don Arungwa, and my beautiful sister, Mrs. Rosemary Arungwa, your unwavering support has been a beacon of light during my most challenging times. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Elder Udo Jacob, who, in 2002, recognized my potential and appointed me to the NNAUSA Youth Board. Your faith in me ignited my journey of service.

I am profoundly grateful to Mr. B.O. Eguzouwa for believing in my abilities and appointing me as the interim chapter secretary in Philadelphia in 2004, a position I proudly held until 2010. My heartfelt thanks also go to Dr. Elele, who further nurtured my leadership potential by appointing me as the National Youth Director in 2007. A special thank you to Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Ogbonna-Erondu; your guidance since 2003 has been instrumental in shaping my path. Lastly, to my dear friend Atty Uzoma Nwaekpe, your unwavering loyalty and friendship throughout this journey have been invaluable.

To my first campaign manager, Chief Ogechi Ukegbu, you are a remarkable individual whose love and support I will always cherish. My deepest gratitude also extends to the Southern New Jersey Chapter and its leadership under President Iheariochi Agwamba. I am forever indebted to my campaign team, led by Mrs. Vivian Nwankwo, whose dedication earned my lifelong respect and friendship. To my executive committee members, your partnership and collaboration have made me a better leader.

To my incredible wife, Engr. Mrs. Ogechi (Ahudiya) Ahuruonye, thank you for being my rock. Your unwavering love and support have been my greatest strength. To my four wonderful children, Bube, Nma, Zara, and Ugo, I am back and excited to create the memories we’ve missed together. To the national council members and leadership, your guidance and collaboration over the past four years have been indispensable.

To all NNAUSA members, I want to express my gratitude for your love and support. While I cannot mention everyone by name, please know that I cherish each of you. Your contributions have enriched my life in ways that words cannot fully capture. Thank you all for standing by me.

As I pass the torch to our incoming National President/CEO, Dr. Ugochukwu Agu, I extend my heartfelt congratulations once again. You are about to embark on a journey of significant responsibility. Lead with love, respect, and the understanding that much is expected of you. You will succeed and carry forward the vision of this great association.

Thank you all for allowing me the honor of serving you these past years. I carry your prayers and support as I embark on the next chapter of my life. May God bless you all.

With deep appreciation and warmest regards

Mazi V.C. Ahuruonye

Former National President/CEO
